No, Being Pro-Abortion is NOT a Respectable Opinion.

DISCLAIMER: This blog post is a heavy handed rebuttal and rebuke of the pro-abortion position and is meant to condemn the position, NOT the person. If you or someone you love has had an abortion, we want you to know that you are loved by a Savior who redeems you out of your hurt, your shame, and any negative feelings you may have toward yourself. Additionally, we want you to know there are resources for you. Please contact us at hello@knittedandknownco.com and we will provide you with a resource local to you to help.
You’ve heard the old adage, “Don’t talk about politics, religion, or money.” We here at Knitted & Known think that’s bogus, so we decided to combine all three! YAY! We are not shy about our belief in Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of humanity who came to earth in the flesh and died for all of our sins. We’re also not shy about our politics, we’re pro-life (really we’re pro-abolition of abortion in all cases) and we’re extremely conservative, not scared to say who we support (mainly Rs) and why and that we know God can use broken people to accomplish His will. Additionally, if you’re savvy you can figure out our revenue from the amount of ultrasounds we provide. All this to say, it’s ridiculous that our culture is teaching people to not talk about the three most important aspects of our life because they could be “offensive”. These are topics we should face head on and fearlessly pursue in courteous discourse and with truth and love.
What Should Christians Think On Abortion?
There seems to be some disagreement, even among Christian circles, about abortion and how the Lord views it. I’ve recently been challenged for saying, “Abortion is not a respectable opinion.” I’m here to dispel the falsehood that we, as Christians, cannot stand up for truth and show that we need to be fighting the evil of abortion in all facets of our lives.
First and foremost, abortion is immoral, because its murder. This is obvious, but seemingly a statement needing to be said for those who call themselves Christian. As Christians, we know that our conduct must be holy, set apart, as to be like Christ. That’s Romans 6:1 (obviously we can’t be holy like Christ without Him, but I’m going to assume this audience knows all these caveats). As such, we cannot partake in evil deeds, abortion being one of those.

Secondly, this is an EXTREMELY pervasive issue. Honestly, I want to do another post about this topic alone, but there have been over ten holocausts in America alone since 1973. We talk about what the Third Reich did to the population of Jews, gypsies, and other minorities in the 30’s and 40’s as if our culture isn’t literally doing TEN TIMES the amount of death and calling it healthcare.
Thirdly, since it is murder, and since it is so ubiquitous in America we should being saying something about it. If someone walked up to you at a networking function and said, “Hey, I think committing genocide is an okay thing.” We would, rightfully, speak truth to that person and not be interested in networking with them, in fact we’d say that is not a respectable opinion at all. But, if you repackage what they say to, “Hey, I think a woman should have the right to choose.” We suddenly are not allowed to speak ill of that opinion.
Real Love, Real Truth
Some might say, “Keelyn, we’re supposed to love and respect all people” and to that I would say, “Yes.”
You can love and respect someone while also speaking truthfully to them that they’re wrong and the position they hold is both evil and not worthy of consideration. In fact, it is the most loving thing to tell someone the way they’re heading is towards the pit of hell and that this way of thinking is indicative of it. I am able to respectfully tell someone that their idea is detrimental to them and the world around them and to say, “We cannot accept that opinion around here.” Additionally, this idea that all ideas are tolerable is itself an intolerable idea. Our founding fathers would laugh at our current culture saying we need to respect all opinions. And Jesus Himself did not tolerate all opinions (see Matthew 16:23) and we should not either. In fact, in this situation, Jesus offered a sharp rebuke to Peter. When people spout the wickedness of abortion as a laudable thing, we should not hold back when calling it out.
But the flip side of this is we must also provide an alternative. Imagine you’re driving in an unknown country and the GPS stops providing you the way forward. Instead when you turn down any road it just says, “Not this road.” or “Not that road.” That would be extremely frustrating to anyone navigating. So we must provide a way forward. We must say, “Your opinion is unacceptable.” and then say, “But there is a truth that supersedes opinions and His name is Jesus Christ.”
We must speak the gospel to the people whose opinions are intolerable and show them that they cannot continue in their sins lest their souls be lost. Abortion cannot continue in the hearts of men, abortion must be completely eradicated in this nation. We can no longer tolerate this opinion in our jobs, in our government, in our lives.
We must speak the truth so loudly that we drown out the evil of this culture. We must proclaim Christ so boldly that we lose our jobs, that we are ostracized from our families, that we are persecuted for His name sake, that we are bullied, made fun of, and cast aside. We proclaim the gospel until we are killed for our beliefs. We proclaim the gospel even if we are reduced to just twelve again.
Praise the Lord.
