Bamboo Pajama Care Tips

There’s nothing quite like slipping into your buttery-soft bamboo pajamas at the end of the day. If you’re still on the fence about why bamboo is the superior fabric, check out this post: https://www.knittedandknownco.com/blog/are-bamboo-pajamas-more-comfortable-than-cotton-pajamas

Since we love bamboo pajamas so much here are some tips for maintaining these gentle fabrics to withstand the test of time!

Top Tips for Caring for Bamboo Fabric

Keeping your bamboo buttery soft and silky smooth for as long as possible requires some special care. A little bit of TLC goes a long way!

Bamboo fabrics are certainly delicate, so you might be wondering: How do I wash my bamboo clothing? These garments can be machine washed, but make sure it’s on the gentle cycle. Don’t wash these fabrics with other, denser/bulkier items like towels or jeans. These items and their metal fixtures can cause rips, tears, or the dreaded pilling of the bamboo fabric. Ensure that you use cold water when you wash these as well.

Skip the Fabric Softener & Bleach

Additionally, you should not use fabric softener or bleach with these products. Since they’re so delicate, these corrosive chemicals can cause harm to the tender fibers. A regular regimen of detergent and occasional stain treatment is the correct option for bamboo fabrics.

Stain Treatment

Although bamboo fabric is delicate, you don’t have to worry about treating stains, it’s easier than you think! We’ve had great results with Shout Stain Remover, but any enzyme-based stain remover should do the trick. Pat a small amount of the remover onto the stain and work it gently into the fabric. Let the stain remover set for 10 to 20 minutes before washing the pajamas again on cold.

Stain Busting Secret

Got a pesky stain that still won’t come out of the cuff or collar? Lay your jammies out to dry in the sun and let it work its magic. Just be sure to bring them inside once dry to avoid any color fading.

Selecting a Detergent

The detergent you use on the rest of your clothes will work fine. We use a high-efficiency washer, but that’s just what our washer takes. If you’re going the more holistic route, then you may want to use a dye-free detergent. I found this one that is also scent-free on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09GHYQKTD?maas=maas_adg_api_585038781116065670_static_9_129&ref_=aa_maas&tag=maas&aa_campaignid=lv_LrpCOCUec5ZY7RrlhW&aa_adgroupid=lv_uP0v7UVWikSMLZgXgQ&aa_creativeid=lv_5llQIBjIKoTXarJ3Yl&m=ATJ0W78OLZBD8&th=1

I promise I get no kickbacks for this product, but a dye-free, scent-free detergent is the best choice for bamboo pajamas.

Does Bamboo Fabric Shrink?

Using hot water can cause your bamboo pajamas to shrink. NEVER use hot water on your bamboo to maintain longevity! Using cold water is how to prevent bamboo pajamas from shrinking.

Flip & Zip - Loading the Washer

Before you put your double-zipper pajamas into the washer, make sure all the zippers are zipped to the top to prevent the zippers from rubbing and causing abrasions on your pajamas. Flipping the pajamas inside out provides another layer of protection to your sweet and soft pajamas. And if you’ve got pajamas with buttons or snaps, ensure those are put together as well to prevent those from being snagged and ripped off.

How to Dry Bamboo Clothing

Air drying is the best possible option to maintain the silkiness of the bamboo for as long as possible. Sometimes we’re in a rush so we throw our bamboo in the dryer on the low heat setting, although tumble drying is best. Again, you want to avoid high heat when it comes to bamboo, as this can shrink your pajamas or cause them to pill.

This is absolutely the best way to wash bamboo clothing, as it will increase the lifespan of you and your little one’s fabrics! Do you have any tips not mentioned here? Drop your tip in the comments below! You may be featured on our socials!
